The colour leap
When Pebble launched the Pebble Time in 2015, the studio gained something it had never had before: a colour palette. The original Pebble’s screen had been a black-and-white LCD; the Pebble Time was an e-paper display capable of 64 colours, still pixel-precise, still always-on, still without backlight.

TTMM for Pebble Time is what the studio made with that new constraint — 84 original watchface designs, produced over twelve months between the device’s launch in mid-2015 and the closure of the Pebble platform at the end of 2016. It is the collection where the TTMM visual language fully crystallised. It is also the collection that Designboom covered three times, and the one for which the A’ Design Award gave its first Silver to TTMM.

A note on the colour study
Adapting the TTMM visual language to the Pebble Time’s 64-colour palette was an extended effort in its own right. Each colour was tested for legibility, for the way it played against others, and for the way the e-paper display rendered it under different ambient light. Colour in this catalogue is never decoration — every choice is functional, restrained, and consistent across the eighty-four designs.

What came next
The colour catalogue extended into circular form with the TTMM for Pebble Time Round, and into a new generation of devices with TIC-VOL 1 — the current TTMM collection for Pebble 2 Duo. A dedicated collection for Pebble Time 2 is in development under Eric Migicovsky’s revived Pebble platform.
