TTMM for Pebble Time Round — Archive (2015–2016)
“Through TTMM I am searching for a form, a sign, a logo for TIME.”
— Albert Salamon
The circular constraint
In late 2015 Pebble released the Pebble Time Round — its first and only circular-screen device. The screen was 180 pixels in diameter, the device the slimmest smartwatch in production at the time, and the geometry was new. TTMM had spent two years designing for rectangular displays. The Round demanded that the entire grammar be re-thought.
TTMM for Pebble Time Round is the result — 30 original watchface designs produced between late 2015 and the end of 2016, every one re-designed from the rectangle outward. It is the smallest of the three Pebble-era collections, and in many ways the most disciplined. A circular screen punishes laziness: there is no left or right, no top or bottom, no axis to lean on. Every design here had to find a different way to organise time.

What came next
The circular language of TTMM for Pebble Time Round continued on Fitbit Versa with TTMM-S, and returns in the upcoming TTMM collection for Pebble Round 2 — currently in development under Eric Migicovsky’s revived Pebble platform. The current TTMM collection for the new rectangular Pebble 2 Duo and the original Pebble devices is TIC-VOL 1.
